Question:
I want to prep for IPFC during our break, where can I go to start studying the information? Is there a textbook that they refer to? I'm in 2021 so it will be the first IPFC that I'm hoping to prep for.
Response:
Hi there!
It’s a great idea to become familiarized with the material before IPFC; that’s definitely something I feel would have helped me, especially with long-term retention of the material. Remember it’s important to take time to relax and get re-energized for the upcoming semester as well, so hopefully you are able to do a bit of both on your break. The therapeutic topics that were covered for 2020s in IPFC 1 were: clinical biochemistry (lab tests including renal, liver, hematologic), nutrition, anemia, VTE, asthma, and COPD.
I actually did not do assigned readings for IPFC 1, but I believe that many of the more detailed assigned readings for IPFC courses come from the Applied Therapeutics textbook (I believe the eleventh edition is most recent). These books should be available in the library, and they may be available online through the library website—I’m not currently having luck accessing them from off-campus. However, the Compendium of Therapeutic Choices (CTC), which is available through RxTx (under “Conditions” tab, then “Therapeutic Choices”), would probably be a better introductory resource—shorter and more summarized, to give you the bigger picture.
Good luck with your preparation, and again, I hope you take time to enjoy your well-deserved break!
