Do you have any tips on how to get more involved in pharmacy school (eg. clubs, extracurriculars, etc.)?
Response #1:
Look for postings in your Facebook group for clubs looking for new members! If you are interested in a specific club, you can also try contacting them to see if there is anything you can help with.
Also SOPhS meetings are open to everyone and will have things you can help out with!
Response #2:
If you are interested in getting into a club, keep an eagle eye out for postings in FB groups and on Instagram. Then when the posting is available, look at which position suits your skills/interests and feel free to reach out to the club’s president to be connected to the current position holder. There you can ask questions to better understand the role.
Don’t be discouraged if you apply and aren’t chosen! Re-applying is just part of the student/recruitment process whether it be clubs/co-op. It’s pretty common to reach out to the committee/council about your application and they often remember your repeated interest when you apply again. Plus, there are A LOT of positions available and applications come out in waves, so keep being persistent in looking into positions that become available (ex. CAPSI comes out in Feb-March, and more SoPhS positions come out Aug-Sep) Also feel free to not pigeon-hole yourself to just pharmacy clubs as the be-all, end-all of extracurriculars. Getting involved in your local community through volunteering/leadership is just as important and something we sometimes forget when we start pharmacy school.
