Question:
Are there any eating disorder/disordered eating resources at Main Campus, or better yet, at the pharmacy school?
Response 1:
I’m glad you reached out. Main campus offers counselling services and so does the pharmacy campus (you can reach either at 519-888-4567 ext. 32655 or at https://uwaterloo.ca/campus-wellness/counselling-services). Unfortunately, the school doesn’t have specific support groups for eating disorders anymore, but the counsellors are well trained and will have additional resources if the information they have isn’t enough. In the Waterloo region there is also the “Eating Disorders: Family and Friends Education and Support Group” (in association with CMHA Waterloo Wellington), you can reach them at 1-844-437-3247 or visit their website: http://cmhaww.ca/programs-services/services-for-eating-disorders/family-and-friends-education-and-support-group/. Although peer mentors aren’t specifically trained for eating disorders/counselling, if you need someone to talk to, we're always here! I hope this helps.
Response 2:
Hi there, to clarify the response above, we did contact counselling services and the Mental Health Research & Treatment Office on main campus runs an eating disorder support group on Thursdays from 7:00-9:00pm Mar 5-May 28. This is covered by the student’s healthcare plan, so there’s no cost for the support group. Contact information is cmhrtintake@uwaterloo.ca and the office can be reached by calling 519-888-4567 ext. 33842. I also heard that there’s a dietician who works on main campus and specializes in eating disorders, but you may want to contact counselling services to determine logistics for appointments and cost. Grand River Hospital also offers inpatient and outpatient care.
At the School of Pharmacy, our academic advisors Becky and Kaitlin are amazing - they can answer any questions you may have regarding resources available to you. Hope everything works out for you!
